Stand Up! Speak Out!
Student Forum

Friday, October 5th, 2007

A select group of high school sophomores and juniors from across Pennsylvania will focus on bystander behavior and pro-social choices for peers. The day will be comprised of two interactive workshop sessions facilitated by Dr. Jeffrey Parker, a psychologist at Innovation Research and Training, Inc. and will feature Dr. Parry Aftab's Teenangels. The morning focuses on positive relationship development among teens while the afternoon is devoted to the issue of cyberbullying. The Student Forum will provide the skills to empower students to positively change their school environments.

Student Agenda

Who May Attend the Student Forum?

  • Each participating high school must send one female and one male student from the 2007-2008 sophomore and junior classes.
  • Student representatives should be chosen by their school administrator or other school official, such as a guidance counselor.
  • Registration for the student representatives must be completed by their school principal or other school official.
  • Before registering students, an educator or administrator from the school building must first register for "Tackling the Difficult Issues: Taking Action for Success," which runs concurrently with the Student Forum on October 5. This person's name must be provided on the Student Forum Registration Form.
  • The Student Forum is limited to 74 students. Registrations will be confirmed on a first come, first served basis. Larger school districts (with more than 3 high schools) may register up to six students.

Bullying generally begins in the elementary grades, peaks in the sixth through eighth grades, and persists into high school.
